Buck: A Life
(A poem by Buck’s grief-stricken owner)

Ah, Dearest Little Buck

Your fins brought us joy,
You were a happy little boy,
Your delightful swimming style
Always brought a smile,
Up and down, back and forth,
You were loved most…by 6 south and north

First your small bowl,
Yes, it nourished your soul,
For then I bought you a new home,
Where I thought you’d love to roam,
After, you were given a new friend,
So your evening loneliness would end,
But Wilma, your wife,
Made a mess of your life,
Yes I know now, a sickly female,
Gave only rot to your beautiful tail,
For this I am so sad,
To know it was I who made your life so bad,
That evil little store of fish,
It is they, who should be punished for this!!!!

So a moment of silence I give to you,
because without my Buck I am blue,
But I am sure in fish heaven they will love you too.

- Yvette Gordon

There once was a goldfish quite sound
in his tank where he swam round and round
then one morning he floated
all swollen and bloated
who knew that a goldfish could drown?

- Mike McCrea

There once was a fish of Yvette’s
who, when asked if he had some regrets
quite tersely replied
“HEY &#@% YOU” and died
a victim of carpish Tourettes

He went limp like the Hindenburg blimp
He really was sick, and not just from ick
There was a fungus among us
Yvette ran to the store to buy medicines and more
But to no avail – Buck was still losing his tail
I heard her reply “Little Buddy Hold On”
But it was much too late – Buck was gone
On a Friday he passed, I knew it wouldn’t last
Poor Buck died cold, wet, hungry and alone.

- Paula Dean

There once was a goldfish quite idle
who mistakenly thought he was tidal
lacking cleaning, his tank
became scum coated and stank
leading to thoughts suicidal

- Tongo Best

There once was a goldfish named Buck
Whose life with Yvette ran amok
He had a small tail
And swam quite well
Until Buck ran out of Luck

- Beverly Lambe

The cause of his death was mysterious
he suddenly turned quite delirious
his tail grew a lesion
there seems to be reason
to suspect that dear Buck was pfiesterious

- Author Unknown

Poor Buck, let us pause ‘midst the rush
and remember his tail turned to mush
then Rob Powell, it is noted
grabbed poor Buck where he floated
and delivered him on with a flush

- Author Unknown

There once was a goldfish named Buck
Who in a tank with Wilma was stuck
‘Vette on him was doting
But Powell found him floating
With love, then disease he was struck

- Chris Obriecht

It lived in a bowl that was choked,
“What’s in there?” all of us joked,
We could barely see fins,
and bubbly grins,
But it wasn’t a fish
Cuz it croaked.
