About this image: Watching from Sunken Park in bustling Friday Harbor, Washington, Doug McCutcheon caught this dramatic image of the downtown fire which devastated an entire town block. The Whale Museum, the yellow wooden building at the top of the hill, was upwind and was spared smoke damage. Doug is a carpenter and exhibit designer for the museum.

About this image: Inspired by the translucence of vellum, but not willing to risk paper cuts, Get Lost Magazine editor Leslie Strom created the colorful layers in Adobe Photoshop. As an iBook background the large elements make it not too busy, and the jewel-tones provide a nice contrast to the mostly white desktop icons.
