When Swans Attack, really all it means is they just want a little understanding. And a kid for dinner...

The picture was taken by the parents of the children, residents of the lake. The picture as it was entered into state records as evidence of the fractious nature of this beast.

I have to say, after I picked him up and brought him home, I sat out by the van with hatch open. He and I conversed for several hous waiting for his transfer to Pilchuck Wildlife Center. It was a wonderful time of reacquaintence since he and I spent the first 98 days of his life together. It is an amazing feeling to be remembered by a swan I had not seen for more than 5 years.

Fred was taken to Pilchuck Wildlife Center to spend a two week vacation, get a health check and recuperate from his adventures prior to his next trip. The injury in his youth that resulted in a loss of one eye has not slowed him down, as you can see from the picture. He now resides in Iowa where he has joined his siblings. They are participating in Iowa's Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program. He now has a mate, something he has been looking forward to for years. He plans on raising a family each year over the next many years. Although Fred will not fly again, his children will enjoy the wind and skies of Iowa.
