There are several ways to experience the stunning Antarctic Peninsula, but none more captivating than an immersive trip that features lectures hosted by inspirational and accomplished National Geographic experts.
Nat Geo experts accompany every voyage into the Antarctica, but from time to time special guests are on board to welcome our guests and share with them their knowledge and stories.
Take, for instance, the 24-day Antarctica, South Georgia and Falklands cruise, departing Buenos Aires on 15 February. Adding to the excitement on this particular voyage is the addition of Peter Hillary to the expedition team. Son of Sir Edmund, Peter is an adventurer and explorer of note in his own right. He’s even made a documentary, Surviving Everest, to mark the fiftieth anniversary of his father and Tenzing Norgay first reaching Mt Everest’s summit. He’ll be joined by adventurer and photographer Tommy Heinrich.
Depending on the cruise and dates you choose you might be accompanied by geographers, glaciologists, naturalists, marine biologists or writers who specialise in natural history. On all Nat Geo Expeditions Antarctica voyages, travellers will participate in lectures and information sessions hosted by naturalist guides, covering topics as diverse as wildlife, history, geopolitics, explorers, climate and environmental protection.
Discovering one of the most famous points of polar exploration with a team of experts allows the traveller incredible first-hand insight and knowledge, and an introduces an extra level of perspective that will greatly enrich their experience.
Travellers are also encouraged to share adventures, drinks, dinner, deck time and activities with the National Geographic experts, so if you have that burning question about the rate at which the polar caps are melting now would be the perfect time to ask.
