Jump the Shark

Jump the Shark

Chris Fallows gets a front-row view of one of the most spectacular events in the animal kingdom.

Everyone aboard Apex Shark Expeditions’ boat White Pointer was in awe as we witnessed one of nature’s greatest spectacles: a flying great white shark. It was like watching the Discovery Channel live. Incredibly, this breaching behaviour happens on most days at Seal Island in False Bay, South Africa.

During June, July and August you’ll see them getting airtime and feeding on cape fur seals on an unprecedented scale. It’s an unbelievable sight.
To provide some temporary relief from this heart-pumping experience, there are plenty of jackass penguins and other critters to keep you entertained too. Just don’t get too attached to them when the sharks are about.
If you’re not game to get in the water with these awesome animals (in a cage, of course), Seal Island is the next best thing. Undoubtedly one of the best places for a nature lover needing an adrenaline fix.
