Just when we thought glamping couldn’t get any cooler, Aurora Wilderness Camp takes it to a whole new level – so new, in fact, it doesn’t have a fixed address. Situated six kilometres east from Kilpisjärvi in northern Finland, the camp allows guests to slumber in a cosy glass-roofed cabin that’s regularly towed to a prime spot deep in the wilderness of the Arctic Circle where you’ll be able to gaze at the northern lights from the comfort of your warm, plush bed.
There’s just two cabins and each one includes your basic amenities – gas stove, a selection of local snacks and hot drinks, snow shoes, kick sleds – topped with unencumbered views of the aurora borealis.
Feel like a rock star as you’re picked up by snowmobile for an invigorating teeth-chattering journey to your cabin, which is in total isolation away from manmade light pollution. Once there, you’ll learn how to make a campfire to stave off the cold and grill some local sausages before slipping under the covers to watch the northern lights dance across the night skies.
