Snowshoeing is a form of hiking where the hiker wears a special type of footwear for walking over snow, which then distributes the person’s weight over a larger surface area so the foot does not sink completely into the snow.
Pretty amazing, right? This phenomenon, known as ‘flotation’, allows the hiker to effortlessly walk up gentle slopes and across Antarctica’s soft, powdery snow, enabling them to explore locations that would otherwise be unreachable in ordinary boots.
Snowshoeing is an excellent way to ascend to some of Antarctica’s best vantage points, stretch the legs and view some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet.
