You may have tried rock climbing before, but you haven’t truly climbed until you’ve scaled the remote and rugged granite cliffs and summits of East Greenland.
It’s one of the best ways to explore East Greenland, and you’ll experience breathtaking peaks and glacial remnants, before travelling on foot in pursuit of incredible views of Scoresby Sund’s ice-filled fjords.
With Aurora Expeditions, experienced climbers can relish the challenge to explore the rarely-scaled peaks, granite walls and spires that dominate Greenland’s stunning landscape. And when you reach the top? A spectacular icy remote wildness awaits you – a view that few people on this Earth will ever lay eyes on!
This adventure takes place in the beautiful and rugged Scoresby Sund on Greenland’s East Coast. Preparation begins with some training excursions on granite cliffs, before attempting at least two major ascents over a series of challenging and exhilarating days. The average outing will last between 4 to 10 hours, so stretch your calves and hamstrings, strap on your climbing shoes, clip on your carabiners and join Aurora Expeditions for an incredible climbing adventure.
This activity is an optional extra on the Aurora Expeditions Jewels of the Arctic, Arctic Complete and East Greenland Explorer voyages. Prices start from US$900 per person.
Rock climbing participants should be fit and well prepared for this activity. You should be able to walk or climb with a moderate pack of approximately 10kgs for up to 4 to 10 hours a day.
Your guide will assess your ability on the initial climb and if you have insufficient experience, they reserve the right to restrict your participation.
This Arctic rock climbing program requires a reasonable level of climbing experience (at least Grade 10/Difficult/5.2) and a solid level of fitness.
While there are opportunities to develop skills during the expedition, this is not an instructional adventure and is unsuitable for complete beginners.
