Get in touch with your inner David Attenborough as you get up close and personal with elephants, rhinos, gorillas, lions and more on this unique 13-day Ugandan wildlife adventure.
Your expedition starts at majestic Murchison Falls National Park, the largest of the 10 national game parks in Uganda and the place where the Victoria Nile River surges through a narrow gap. It’s here you’ll visit Ziwa Rhino Ranch and track white rhinos on foot.
While enjoying a morning game drive on the northern bank of the Nile you will be introduced to the who’s who of African wildlife, including elephants, lions, Cape buffalos, Rothschild’s giraffe, hartebeests, oribi, bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, spotted hyenas and leopards.
In the afternoon, enjoy a stunning boat cruise to the bottom of the falls where you’ll scour the waters in search of hippos, crocodiles and an array of birds. Finally, stop a few metres from the Devil’s Cauldron, where the water of the Nile squeezes its way through a seven-metre gorge and bursts out with a thunderous roar.
After an eight- to nine-hour scenic drive to Kibale Forest Reserve, you’ll get your Jane Goodall on as you enter an evergreen forest in search of chimpanzees, mountain gorillas and other primates. Plenty of photos opps here, folks.
The following days are earmarked for Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may be lucky to spot a rare Ugandan kob, along with elephants and buffaloes. If you’re luckless, a game drive on Queen Elizabeth National Park’s Kasenyi Plains, where lions, buffaloes, elephants and large numbers of antelopes roam, is sure to bring success.
A boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel will provide another opportunity to search for hippos, herds of buffaloes, and flocks of water birds, while an evening game drive as the sun sets is a perfect way to end a jam-packed day.
At Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Reserve and Bwindi National Park trek into the mountains in search of the world’s rarest primate – this is the trip highlight for most. Mountain gorillas – there are only about 900 left living in the wild – are usually found in families ranging in size from six to 40 primates led by a silverback. After an hour’s viewing with this handsome lot, you’ll never forget what a special opportunity this has been.
The final attraction culminates in a trip to Jinja, east Africa’s adventure capital, where the adventurous can try white water rafting, bungee jumping or quad biking or visit the source of the River Nile.
Private group tours start from AU$11,725 a person. Dates are flexible for groups with a minimum of four people.
