The small group adventure outfit has just dropped its second expedition: a 12-night romp through Colombia and Guatemala aboard its beautifully restored Basler BT-67, a modernised DC-3 capable of landing in places commercial airlines tend to give a very firm yeah, nah to. With a maximum of 12 guests, the whole point is to skip airport queues and stitch together places that would otherwise be a logistical pain in the arse.
Things kick off in Medellín before heading properly off-grid. In San Agustín, there are mysterious stone statues left behind by a civilisation that disappeared without a written record. Then comes Caño Cristales, where an endemic aquatic plant turns the river red, gold and green, followed by the Llanos to ride with Colombian cowboys who still sing to their cattle. You can also buzz over the savannah in a microlight and go looking for piranhas by kayak.
And that’s only Colombia.
The DC-3 then makes for remote Providencia, where days involve reefs, nurse sharks and catching dinner yourself, before crossing into Guatemala.
Here, you’ll camp among the Maya community at barely excavated Uaxactún, wander Tikal before the crowds wake up and eventually finish among Antigua’s volcanoes with a hike up Pacaya and a well-earned Zacapa rum.

Departures run in August and September 2027, with prices from a whopping AU$68,797 per person (yowser). Dr. Jones already flies a Peru–Patagonia expedition, and if all this has you reaching for the credit card as fast as Lightning Mcqueen, there’s more coming: Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands is next on the radar (you heard it here first).
