There are worse ways to spend a Brisbane afternoon than drinking gin metres from where it was made, attempting mini golf with deteriorating hand-eye coordination and calling the whole thing ‘an activity’.
Never Never Distilling Co. has opened its first distillery outside South Australia at Landers Pocket, just 15 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD. And because opening a Queensland distillery without making a suitably Queensland gin would be rude, they’ve also dropped Never Never Landers Lime Gin.
The new bottle goes hard on citrus: Tahitian lime, native finger lime, desert lime and Makrut lime leaf, backed up with fresh ginger, coconut and plenty of juniper. Expect zesty citrus up front, a little ginger-and-pepperberry kick and coconut lurking underneath. Basically, Queensland summer without the thigh chafe.
The obvious move is to chuck 30mL into a Lemon, Lime & Bitters over ice, add a lime wheel and find somewhere shady.
Although ‘somewhere shady’ could very easily become an entire afternoon at Landers Pocket. Alongside Never Never’s working micro-distillery, there’s a 4 Pines brewery, food, mini golf and a driving range.
