Hot tub iglooEngelberg, Switzerland
The thought of walking into an igloo in a bathing suit is enough to make anyone shiver. But Engelberg Iglu-Dorf has its own in-igloo spa and sauna equipped with a heating system to fend off the cold. The igloo village it resides in is built from scratch every year, and the spa igloo accommodates up to six guests within its icy walls, which are adorned with Inuit art carvings. It’s a constant –5°C inside, but the 38°C jacuzzi will make you forget the chill.
Engelberg Igloo Village is located at the heart of the Titlis ski resort. A cable car from Engelberg to Trübsee mountain station takes about 15 minutes, and from there it’s about a five-minute walk to the village.
A night here costs about US$135 per person in a shared igloo. This includes use of the hot tub, welcome drinks and nibbles, dinner, a tour of the village, a snowshoe walk, morning tea delivered to your sleeping bag and breakfast.
You’ll find the perfect balance between luxury accommodation and extreme weather conditions.
The igloo village takes about 3,000 hours to build each winter, and has been constructed for the past 20 years.
